What makes DFS such a
multifaceted
and attractive employer?

"DFS is an employer that works for you in all your life circumstances."

Anna-Lena Giersch Engineering, at DFS since May 2019

The career so far

"After completing my degree, I had choices – and I decided to go with DFS.

I studied industrial engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt, specialising in mechanical engineering. I completed both my bachelor's and master's degrees there, and then looked around for potential employers. I was ultimately convinced by what DFS offered and started as an engineering trainee. After 6 months, I moved to the digital maintenance team, where I still work today. I have to say, it's the perfect team for me."

The motivation

"What fascinates me about DFS is our mandate as a company, namely ensuring the safety of air traffic.

Of course, DFS also has to operate profitably, but the focus is on our role in the overall air transport system and not on the revenue a project can potentially generate. Safety is our mission, and we’re happy to carry it out. It’s a great feeling to know that what I do every day is really making a difference."

The activities

"In the digital maintenance team, I’m the interface among the specialist departments. We are consultants, troubleshooters and enablers with a view to the future.

Our team works to support the digitalisation and modernisation of end-to-end processes, for example for maintenance and logistics, based on SAP IT systems. We set the strategic direction and develop solutions together with the departments."

"You can rely on DFS as an employer in every situation, the jobs are future-proof and the opportunities are quite varied."

The challenges

"Just as in life, change can be difficult, but change management is a challenge I’m happy to take on.

From a purely factual perspective, you’re always going to face challenges when implementing new and more efficient processes. From the outset, we try to give all colleagues a good feeling about the change, take away their uncertainty and convince them that the step forwards is the right one. We’re always there for them, acting as their point of contact for all questions relating to our processes."

The corporate culture

"The best thing about our corporate culture is that I don't have to do the splits in order to reconcile my new family situation with my job.

Over the last few years, I’ve invested a great deal of energy into my job, which has always fulfilled me. Now I'm a mum and have to balance my private life with my job, and fortunately I don't face any problems with this. The company is flexible in terms of my new working hours and I don't feel like I'm on the outside looking in.  Everyone can do well here, not just financially but also in terms of their personal development and changes to their individual duties, in day-to-day life, as well as in special situations. We’re offered excellent conditions, attractive benefits and a great pension scheme. The work-life balance is also spot on. Of course, intrinsic motivation is always a factor, but people generally come and stay here, hardly anyone leaves."
