A thorough briefing for a successful career take-off

Advice on your application

To make sure your application reaches its intended destination, you can find helpful information and advice on the documents you need to submit, the selection process itself and much more here. The information on this page is aimed at our job openings for graduates and experienced professionals.

Keep in mind that some areas or positions at DFS may require a different approach. Please pay close attention to the information contained in the respective job advertisement and the associated application form. Our air traffic controller training, for example, has very specific requirements with a dedicated selection process. You can find all this information here:

Documents you need to submit

The most important document is your CV. Without it we will not be able to get a true impression of you and your skills, qualifications and experience. A short cover letter, or letter of motivation, also helps us to understand your motives.

Certificates, references and transcripts (from your schooling, training or studies) will become important at the latest when you meet us in person as we will need to see the originals. Certificates from additional qualifications can help us to round off the picture we have of you even further.

How the selection process works

Once we have received your application, we will review it personally. If everything fits, we will liaise with the relevant department at DFS and respond. The next step is usually to get to know each other (online). In addition to covering some general issues, we will also discuss subject-matter topics with you.

The second round is all about getting to know each other personally, giving you the chance to experience us as a company and our day-to-day work. If both rounds are successful, we will contact you by phone and discuss everything else.

FAQs about the application process

Each application is reviewed personally and forwarded to the relevant department if the review is positive. We will endeavour to give you a response to your application within a few days. As several parties are involved in the selection process, it can sometimes take longer in individual cases.

Your main contact is the person listed in the job advertisement. You can contact them with any questions about the job. For non-job-specific questions, please e-mail karriere@dfs.de

You do not need to prepare for an initial meeting or work shadowing as if you were preparing for an exam. We are more interested in you as a person, what motivates you, what drives you as well as in your experience and your expectations. We are also excited to hear what else you would like to know about us. It is important that you bring your certificates/references/transcripts (from your studies, training or last employment) with you, as we need to see the originals.

We do not have a strict dress code per se. Come as the situation demands, without pretending to be something you are not. Just wear what you feel most comfortable in to make a good impression.

If the requirements of a particular position do not match your profile exactly (educational background, professional experience and skill set), you are still welcome to apply for the position. A cover letter, or letter of motivation, will help us to understand your motives.

If there are currently no positions that match your profile or your career aspirations, you can also send us an unsolicited application and we will try to find a match.

No. Unfortunately, we do not accept applications by e-mail. You can find all current vacancies in our job market on our career website. Please note that the application forms differ depending on the profession and that a separate application is required for each position.

You have two options for submitting documents after your initial application.

  • You will receive confirmation of receipt of your application by e-mail. You can reply directly and attach further documents or send us questions.
  • Using the online portal, you can continue to edit your application and add documents.

In individual cases, we might specifically request further documentation if this can help us to make a decision.

You can withdraw your application in two ways.

  • As soon as we have received your application, you will receive a confirmation of receipt by e-mail. You can reply to this directly and inform us that you are withdrawing your application.
  • Using the online portal: You can edit and withdraw your application here.

At DFS, our corporate language is predominantly German. Nevertheless, depending on the area and position, there are also jobs where German language skills play a subordinate role. English plays a particularly important role in our day-to-day work as it is the standard language in the aviation sector. All additional language qualifications are an advantage but generally not a requirement.

An example of a job where language skills are important is in the training to become an air traffic controller where very good English at C1 level is required. You can find out more about the requirements for air traffic controller training here:

In principle, we also have positions that are particularly suitable for newcomers to the industry. If the requirements of a particular position do not match your profile exactly (educational background, professional experience and skill set), you are still welcome to apply for the position. A cover letter or letter of motivation will also help us to understand your motives.
