Hand in hand for safe air traffic
About us as an employer
At DFS, we ensure safety in air traffic. In the sky and on the ground. In this role, we monitor the entire German airspace and the country's designated international airports. All aircraft travelling within our area of responsibility are under our control.
Working hand in hand, we ensure that they reach their destinations reliably, expeditiously and on time. This is a varied and responsible task for everyone that works at DFS.

The sky's the limit
We offer a range of challenging jobs for all those who are passionate about aviation and keen to play an active role in shaping the future of air traffic. Our colleagues in air traffic control represent the largest professional group. They guarantee a safe and smooth flow of air traffic.
Alongside this, our colleagues from engineering and IT develop and operate the associated systems – from radar facilities to air traffic control systems. All departments are supported by our teams in the numerous corporate divisions.
The principal areas of our work
The principal task of DFS is air traffic control in two areas: the control centre and the control tower. These are complemented by the aeronautical information service, numerous technical services, initial and further training for air navigation services specialists, as well as international consulting services.
Control centres
for upper and
lower airspace
The airspace over Germany is divided into flight information regions, which in turn are assigned to specific control centres. Our air traffic controllers provide en-route and approach control services from these centres. They handle every pilot flying under VFR and IFR in controlled airspace.
Control towers
for areas in the vicinity of airports
Tower controllers monitor air traffic in the immediate vicinity of airports. They use radiotelephony to manage a smooth flow of air traffic, ensuring that aircraft taking off and landing are kept clear of one another. They issue take-off and landing clearances and use ground radar at night and in foggy conditions.
Our expertise is in demand worldwide
DFS is represented worldwide by numerous subsidiaries and associated companies. These entities manage air traffic at nine regional airports in Germany, as well as one major airport in Great Britain, for example. Via our subsidiaries, we also offer staff training for military air traffic control and are active in the drone market.
A multifaceted portfolio
Our experience and expertise are in demand internationally. Currently, we are active in 20 countries throughout the world.
Alongside our core activities of air traffic control and air traffic management, we also market a wide range of simulations, training courses and consultancy services worldwide. This wide-ranging portfolio also encompasses aeronautical publications.
