As part of the selection process for our dual courses of studies in air navigation services engineering, computer science and air traffic management (Luftverkehrsmanagement), you will complete an online test. We will then ask you to introduce yourself during a telephone interview and a face-to-face screening process on site. The selection process for the air traffic management dual course of studies is similar to the selection procedure for air traffic controllers.
DFS will bear all relevant tuition fees.
For our dual course of study, you need a university entrance qualification. You can apply for our IHK apprenticeship programmes with a Fachabitur.
The requirements vary depending on the degree programme. However, good grades and an affinity for both air traffic control and aviation represent an ideal basis. If you enjoy learning new things, are committed and an absolute team player, you already satisfy the most important requirements.
Our dual courses of studies are taught in a block model. During the semester, you will attend lectures at the university and take your exams. You will then use the lecture-free period during the semester break for the practical phases at the company. The exact procedure and content of the practical phases vary depending on the degree course.
Our aim is always to offer you a permanent position once training is completed. We support all our students in applying internally at our company and finding their ideal position.
Of course, you are welcome to reapply following a rejection. Indeed, we are always happy to receive applications from anyone interested in a dual course of studies or training/apprenticeship place at our company.
However, there is one exception: If you fail to pass the selection process for air traffic controller training, you cannot reapply for air traffic controller training or the air traffic management dual course of studies.
Of course. You are still welcome to apply for a different training programme with us. We welcome anyone who is interested in one of our apprenticeships/traineeships or dual courses of studies. Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to reapply for the air traffic controller training or the air traffic management dual course of studies.
You can find the current application deadlines on the respective pages of our dual courses of studies. In principle, however, you can make a note of 1 June. From this date onwards, you will have the opportunity to apply for a place on a dual course of studies with us.

The air traffic controller training programme starts several times a year. This means you can apply to us at any time. Ideally, you should apply 1 year before you want to start with the training. In most cases, if you are available earlier, you can start earlier.
