We give wings to diversity

Diversity at DFS

DFS is a cosmopolitan company. We are committed to equal opportunities and value a working environment that is characterised by mutual respect, appreciation and tolerance. Our corporate culture both recognises and honours the diversity of all employees and views this as a source of potential.

Diversity at DFS is a concept that will be valued, nurtured and promoted into the future. This is one way in which we create a climate of acceptance and mutual trust for everyone that works at DFS.

Professional diversity at DFS

As the German air navigation service provider, DFS offers a very wide variety of jobs and professions. Indeed, we have people working in over 40 different so-called job families. Our air traffic controllers with their operational support units represent the largest group, followed by our engineering units, which include professionals from all walks of life, many of whom have an IT background.

Our corporate units are home to the widest range of different jobs and profiles: from accounting, procurement and finance, through corporate development and management, all the way to HR and communications. Although IT software development at our own DFS Systems House represents the smallest group, absolutely nothing works without these key staff. We welcome the diversity of different educational backgrounds and the wide range of expertise that our employees bring to the table.

A working environment free of prejudice

DFS signed the Diversity Charter back in 2008 as an expression of its appreciation and recognition of the individuality and uniqueness of each person. The Charter represents a fundamental commitment to diversity, tolerance, fairness and appreciation, both in the world of work and society at large. On this basis, we are committed to creating a working environment that is free of prejudice. To this end, we organise our Diversity Day every year with presentations on topics such as unconscious bias and the potential of diversity.

Compatibility of family and working life

DFS stands for an innovative and family-friendly corporate culture. This is underlined by our certification with the seal Erfolgsfaktor Familie for work-family balance, which is awarded by the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ). We use an online tool to evaluate our measures and our progress in establishing a healthy work-life balance and derive specific measures from this.

Scholarships for young talents

DFS awards three Deutschlandstipendium scholarships for young talents each year. In collaboration with the German Federal Government, we support committed, successful students. The Deutschlandstipendium scholarship stands for integral talent promotion. After all, social commitment is also important alongside academic achievement. In addition to this, the social and family situation is taken into account in the sense of ensuring equal opportunities.

Mentoring Hessen

Mentoring Hessen is a project of the Hessian universities to promote the careers of women working in science and business. DFS has been supporting this programme as a member for over 10 years. Committed DFS employees volunteer their time to support the professional and personal development of females studying STEM subjects as part of a mentoring programme. The aim is also to offer them a practical insight into working life.

Our employees can also gain valuable experience through this project.
We currently have over 20 female mentors participating in the programme at DFS.

We promote female empowerment

Gender diversity in our teams brings together a wide range of strengths and perspectives and thereby forms the basis for our success.

We are keen to increase the proportion of women, which currently stands at 28 percent. As an employer, we are therefore eager to offer women the best career opportunities.

The aim is to further increase the proportion of women working at the company, with a particular focus on management positions. Equal opportunities are as important for us as equal pay for equal work.

With our comprehensive internal development programme, we are happy to support you in getting the best out of yourself. Whether you want to gain new knowledge, develop your skills and talents or take on an expert or management position – we can offer you a wide range of opportunities. We also focus on topics such as presence & impact and voice & public speaking.

We are also keen to inspire young girls to join DFS. This is why DFS takes part in Girls' Day every year. The aim of this Germany-wide campaign day is to get girls from the 7th to the 10th grade excited about science, IT and engineering, as well as to awaken an initial interest in careers in this field.
