Why is DFS such a
good fit for you?

"My bachelor's thesis at DFS was very useful in helping me familiarise myself with DFS as an employer."

Claudia Feßler Working student and bachelor's thesis completed at DFS, Future Technologies & Digital Lab

The career so far

"The job as a working student at DFS suits me perfectly.

I finished technical upper-secondary school in Ludwigshafen in 2020. I then went on to study applied geosciences at the Technical University of Darmstadt. I got the job at DFS as a working student in operational requirements management. I wrote my bachelor's thesis there on the subject of analysing and comparing the accuracy of visibility diagrams, GPS data and radar detection with the aid of geo-information tools.

The motivation

"Aviation and all the topics associated with it have always been on my radar.

My studies actually had very little to do with aviation although I’d always been really interested in aviation-related issues. Fortunately, I was given the opportunity to use my studies during my time as a working student as they were looking for people studying geosciences."

The activities

"My work is fascinating and exciting – and important.

I work with visibility diagrams, simulated with tools or by means of live traffic. How good is the coverage of radar systems in Germany? There are operational requirements that need to be checked. I find all of this pretty exciting and I'm also able to strike the perfect balance between work and my time off. I let my thoughts fly free while playing the piano, hiking or reading."

"I'd love it if even more women were to find their way to DFS."

The challenges

"There are so many people working for the safety of so many people.

As a newcomer, I obviously can't know everything. Above all, learning the many abbreviations is quite tricky. But all my colleagues are very helpful and happily explain all the terms, as well as the processes behind them."
